Captain Marvel, what to expect.

Sitting in the screening for the highly anticipated Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The opening credit touches your heart in a way that it almost prepares you for the next story in the Marvel Studios hit after hit line up. I found myself laughing, cheering on characters I didn’t expect to love and left wanting more than I did when I sat down. It’s a lot of the best of Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Doctor Strange, and Captain American mixed into one. Here are my non-spoiling reasons you want to catch Captain Marvel, hitting theaters March 7th.

Captain Marvel – What to expect.

Who is Brie Larson?

Hey, I had to look her up after Marvel announced her being cast as Captain Marvel. This summed that up for me.

She’s pretty, she’s funny, and she’s as likable as Captain America with the humor of Ant-Man. She’s a badass, as much so as the other Marvel heroines. Yet, she is more “girl-next-door” than the others. The movie takes us on a journey as she learns who she really is, we learn with her. It’s done well to give us all a great understanding of the where when and hows of Captain Marvel came to be from Carol to Vers. And let’s just say, after The Wasp joined the list of named women in Marvel film titles, it’s nice to have a standalone woman lead in the franchise.

Samuel L Jackson

Captain Marvel is set in 1995. Oh, the music, the pagers, the pay phones, the…well, 90’s. It’s AWESOME! And since this is Fury, before, the Nick Fury that has been through some stuff, it’s interesting to learn where it started for him too. The digital altering of Samuel L Jackson face has him looking like his Pulp Fiction days, without the hair. It’s well done, and any scene with him in it is stolen. He’s hilarious and really made the movie so fun.

Ben Mendelsohn

I have met Ben Mendelsohn before, and he’s naturally a very quick-witted person. His personality carries into his performance as Talos. Without giving too much away, this is what I can say. Talos is a proud member of the Skrulls and a master of shape-shifting. An integral leader of the Skrulls’ offensive efforts in the bitter Kree-Skrull War, the fearsome Talos will do whatever it takes to win.

Goose the cat.

Ok, so yes, I am a cat lover. We have 3, so I am still a few shy of being the crazy cat lady, but even if you don’t love cats, Goose will be your favorite.

I mentioned the opening credit, but make sure you stay for the last two scenes during the credits. The first one, well it will make your heart beat fast. The second one, you will laugh. Guaranteed. And there is a Stan Lee moment that you would expect, but this time my laugh included wet eyes.
