Laugh, Cough, Leak: Drop Your Pants for Underwareness

This is one of those posts that may be a little TMI, but after reading that over 65 million Americans experience bladder leakage I felt that I can relate to this post, and as funny as the topic may sound, it’s really one of those topics that sucks, but exists with more people in their 20’s than in their 80’s.  One of those things that you thought was an “older” person problem.  At 41, I am not old!  But at 41, I have learned that this is a very common issue, one that I am now learning to deal with myself.

I have friends that for years since having their kids would laugh and say they sneezed and peed their pants.  Or couldn’t jump on the trampoline for they said it would cause them to leak, and a few of my friends have to cross their legs when they laugh.  I didn’t get it, but now I do.  Over the last year I can see my body changing with hot flashes and yes, even some moments that I am finding a cough with anything more than an empty bladder can cause me to cross my legs or have to run to the bathroom.  Sucks.  And trust me, I checked to see what I can do to make it better and really, not much more than do your kegels and trust a brand of panty protector.  Ok, I will admit, while recently fighting bronchitis, I had to break down and wear some type of protection.  I chose to wear a maxi pad, not a pad made for the problem, for I wasn’t ready to put that box on the belt at check out yet.

My goal is to help to break down the stigma of this very common condition and Depend Underwear.
